Get to Know Us

The Diverse Achievers Foundation is a nonprofit organization with a unique mission dedicated to diversity in achievement. We believe that anyone can achieve success regardless of race, color, religion, or cultural or ethnic background. Our focus is to provide the educational resources that teachers and families need to cultivate an environment all children are inspired to achieve whatever goals they set for themselves.

We believe that children’s literature books serve a critical role in the education of our children. While they can provide a wealth of information in facts and figures, they can do something even more important than providing data. Books can inspire, encourage, form, and transform a child’s vision for herself/himself.

Role models are important for all children, especially children of color who face cultural, familial, or economic disadvantages. Books that celebrate diversity in achievement bring those role models into your child’s home and classroom. At the Diverse Achievers Foundation, we are working to help teachers and families find those books that can provide the role models our children need to achieve success.

Our Mission

Many foundations committed to promoting diversity focus on fundraising. While funding is critical, our organization was founded by educators with over 90 years of combined teaching experience. We saw a need to develop and distribute the resources parents and teachers should have to inspire and encourage minority children to reach whatever goals they set for themselves.

Our vision began with our first book, “Diverse Achievers: A Guide for Parents and Teachers on Using Children’s Literature to Promote Self-Esteem and an Understanding That Anyone Can Become An Achiever.” In the process of writing that book, we shaped what would become the mission of the Diverse Achievers Foundation.

The mission of the Foundation will include the following overall objectives:

  • To promote tolerance, understanding, equality, and diversity.
  • To encourage families, teachers and their students, and parents and their children to read selected children’s literature about diverse achievers and to discuss important questions raised by the literature.
  • To provide resources for children to learn about diverse achievers who look like them and those who don’t look like them in order to show that anyone who works hard can be a diverse achiever.
  • To build on this model so that readers within the subject group and readers within other groups can build on the accomplishments of diverse achievers to foster self-esteem, self-confidence, and optimism about their own potential and opportunity.

As teachers, we have witnessed firsthand the power of action. We founded this organization on our faith that, together, our efforts can make a real difference in the lives of our children.

Let’s Work Together—Partnering With Us

While we believe the actions of a small group of dedicated individuals can change the world, our ability to affect change is multiplied when we work together. If you would like to contribute to our mission, we want to hear from you.

The initial trustees of the Foundation are Gary Plummer, Bernard Eizen, and Irene Eizen. Additional trustees will be added, and a professional advisory committee will be formed. Provision for these additions should be made in the website so that additional trustees can be named and their vitae shown in the website and also so that the advisory committee can be referenced and the purpose explained on the website. We are in the process of finding exceptionally-talented people to serve in these roles and encourage anyone who may be interested in serving to reach out.

The Diverse Achievers Foundation has been organized as a 501C3 charitable organization under the Internal Revenue Code and incorporated in the state of Florida.  As a result, any donations that you make are tax-deductible, whether it’s a one-time donation or a planned gift. Our Federal Tax ID number, tax returns, financial records, and a copy of our application for exempt status can be made available upon request.

You can also support the Foundation by purchasing our book. The Foundation will receive at least 50% of all royalties earned from the publication of our first book and all future volumes. Of course, we are deeply grateful to those who submit reviews on Amazon and spread the word to others in their community. Our first priority is getting our books into the hands of those who need them.
